What, U2?
He he he. I’m so good with the thinking up funny titles thing. I should get some award or something. It could be called the “Naming Stuff In A Heaps Funny Way” award, or the “Ianto Ware Award For People Who Have A Much Better Grasp Of The English Language Than He Does” award. He he he.
So last night Mr D very very kindly took me to a huuuuge concert. Being Adelaide, there were obviously several really huge concerts on all over the city, but the one we chose involved U2 and Kanye West. It was AWWWWWWESOME. I had a really good time. We caught a bus with thousands of people and lined up with thousands of people, and I was wondering whether I might start getting a bit narky with the audience, but amazingly I didn’t! I’m sure you’ve all read my ‘theory’ on how concerts should be organised into standing sections based on people’s heights and level of involvment in the music industry. If I was any kind of proper blogger I’d know which post that was and link it and all that. I think I may have mentioned it in the Emiliana Torrini story.
Anyway, I was a bit disappointed that not many people felt the need to shake their bootys or even CLAP for Kanye West. Come on, people of Adelaide! He was trying really hard! He made a funny rhyme about pre-nuptial agreements! He had a bored-looking booty dancer wearing white lycra! He’d employed some of our local string players from the Elder Conservatorium and given them some grouse eyemake up! He encouraged everyone who had a dream to ‘touch the sky’! Yeah! I’m with you Kanye, and I was dancing and willing to testify, I came up in the spot lookin’ extra fly. And so did Denni and Wizard. Sita did too, but she’s very famous so that’s why she did.
Does anyone else think that maybe Kanye was mixed a bit funny so that in comparison, U2 sounded way awesome? His voice was bouncing off everything, where as with U2 Bono’s voice was clear and singular as a bell. Hmmm.
People seemed to get their clapping gear out for U2 though, so that was good. You’d think they’d just come to see them or something. U2 really did deserve a big clap though, they were great! They had huge jumbo vision screen things with very entertaining video, the sound was great and there were lots of cool sing alongs. There were lots of very political moments and lots of moments encouraging love and oneness, and it was fun to watch us cynical and slightly reserved Aussies go ‘love? hmmm. Does that mean hugging and stuff?’ It was good, I felt very inspired. And then all 60,000 of us went home and cut each other off in our cars. It was beautiful.
I’ve also seen some real good CD launches lately - saw Brunatex, which is always a great event and the CD is one well worth listening to - and I saw 200 Motels, those dudes are just so rock n’ roll, and I can relate to lots of their lyrics. Good one guys!
