Name-check, name-check
My mate Evan (yes, Red Evan) was talking the other day about how great Ianto Ware’s blog was, and I piped up “And how great is mine?”. Ev said “Nah, I don’t read yours cause you don’t talk about me”. Fair enuf too. It’s really annoying to read about stuff that isn’t about you. So this post is about Evan, and if people feel they’re not getting name checked enuf they should let me know at aliese at leighstardust dot com and in the future I’ll name check them a bunch.
Evan is way cool. He comes to visit me and says lots of entertaining things about communism, but he also says lots of serious and ultimately clever things (i.e. as opposed to merely entertaining) too. He also is very good at writing a catch tune, and I often get ‘Laura-li, I would die, for a piece of your sassy ass’ stuck in my head. Which was written by Evan, incidentally.
Yippiee!

I wrote the tune to Lauralai - he is the Hal David to my Burt Bacharach people.
I thought of a question Evan - under communism, say Mutu or somebody is trying to decide on which club to play at - taking out financial (or any other material) incentive, what will be the criteria for choosing between Chelsea or Real Madrid? Who would pay for his flight to South America (is Chelsea a “corporation”?)/”classier” accommodation (would that consideration be material though?)/more specialised training/equipment/perhaps diet - and I guess there would be no endorsement deals?
If no one slips him something under the table, or above unless it’s “illegal” - is the only criteria where he was born or that he likes the culture/uniform?
It’s intended as a serious question so I’m sorry if it’s all over the place. Aliese any thoughts?

On the same subject, of communism, what about if someone builds - or buys? or acquires? - a boat (I’m thinky of you Mike G), even a small one costs $20,000 a year to run - so in a true communist system would the government (”government”?) be involved at all in these costs - or would most or all people be limited to a small boat because (”)owning(”) a big one would be beyond their means. What about (”)owning(”) paintings/books; or what extent you go to in your education - or want not to work, or do a dangerous or more brainy job, or deciding when or why to retire; or (”)affording(”) delicacy-type foods/trips/entertainment?
Yes, I know, sorry, but there’s no work at work this week.

Hi Nick and Evan,
Nick, I’m most sorry to have got the crediting wrong on Lauralai. What a great song. Also, I think you’re insane, and will think very hard about your questions.

Actually evan probably wrote the melody, I came up with the chords. It’s a team effort, like lennon-mccartney, leigh-stardust, calvin-coolidge.
I nearly wrote leigh stardurst - I think you should start to break stuff!

Aliese, i think you’re correct. Nick is insane.
Evan, i think communism is insane.
Nick, you’re insane.
Now back to the original topic of this blog entry… ME!.. i think you need to talk about ME!.. i cant recall ever seeing my name on this blog of yours aliese! And before you get any ideas, dont just think you can go back in time and post giant entries about how great you think i am, cause it wont work!.. I’ve got the keys to your time machine and i aint giving them back!
Wizard.

Wizard I think you’re wizzy. Aliese, starry and dusty. Ev evvy. I asked these questions of another communist over the weekend and he shrugged his shoulders, said “those are some problems,” “the answers must be somewhere” and decided he was a democratic socialist.
Sorry for taking an interest in economics and politics, does anyone know where the answers might be? So many books have been written, answers on questions fundamental to life must be somewhere… Communistslife.org?
Thanks for a great night the other night Aliese. I’m glad whatever Denni and I have going on doesn’t interfere with our friendship.

Nick, you’re nicky, but mostly on the soccer field.
As someone who frequents a library often you’d think I’d know where you could find out more about communism. Unfortunately, only Evan springs to mind, as he often does when I’m problem-solving. How about planning your next holiday to a communist country and heading to the nearest harbour to see how the boat thing works?
Also, it’s cool about you and Denni, as long as you both keep the minties coming. Also also, spelling mintie is causing no end of difficulty for me today.
Keep up the good work, Nick-ster.

Hey thanks. Have you and Evan got something going on? Because if you do…
Anyone ever worked 7 or 8 hours and not got a single minute of work done?
I think it’s time I started a zine…
